And now a little about the history of the hobby
Board games have existed for thousands of years, from ancient Egyptian “Senet”, through “Go” in China, to classic chess. However, the development of modern tabletop games began in the late 20th century with so-called board games (boardgames) that introduced innovative mechanics, creative themes and strategic depth. Games such as “Catan”, “Carcassonne” and “Ticket to Ride” laid the foundations of today’s global board game scene.
In Serbia, the player base grows year after year, and Games.con has become the central meeting place for board game fans and local designers.
As for TTRPGs (Tabletop role-playing games), they emerged in the 1970s, with “Dungeons & Dragons (aka D&D/DnD)” becoming the pioneer and standard-bearer of the genre. TTRPGs combine storytelling, improvisation and rules, letting players create their own worlds and characters.
Besides D&D, a multitude of other TTRPG systems have developed over the last 30 years, such as:
“Call of Cthulhu”, “Pathfinder”, “Vampire: The Masquerade”, “Blades in the Dark”, “FATE” and loads of other titles.
In Serbia, the TTRPG community has taken off over the last 5-6 years, alongside the global popularity of YouTube TTRPG channels such as Critical Role. For the past ten or so years, Games.con has been bringing together designers, dungeon masters and players from all over the country in one place.
Why should you take part in #Games.con2025?
Because you get the chance to…
